December 9th Ride

Posted: 10th December 2010 by LadyBikerTravel in December 2010 Challenge

Back to my regular mode of transportation after a day in a cage and a bird (driving and flying for those who don’t speak the lingo!) and what a gorgeous day! Had drinks after work with a good friend, then headed home on a beautiful, cool evening. Tonight’s route included getting completely lost in an area I’ve been driving for almost 20 years! Beyond embarrassing, but I’ve never mastered Webb Chapel. Here’s how it unfolded: Beltline to Webb Chapel (piece of cake), then Webb Chapel to…well, it was supposed to be Northwest Highway but that has never worked for me and tonight was no exception. You know, Webb Chapel and Webb Chapel Extension both cross Northwest Highway and somehow, I managed not to cross it, not to go under it, not to go over it. And yet, I found myself on the south side of it, and next thing I know, I’m on I-35 headed to downtown Dallas. Still don’t know how it happened (and I’m pretty sure my ogling of the new train service that goes from downtown Dallas to Carrollton was not responsible). Regardless. from I-35, I know what to do. Mockingbird exit to Irving Blvd and home from there. Lots of Christmas lights – I’m still going to do a route through the actual housing neighborhoods to see more lights – and pretty weather. What did I learn? I learned Webb Chapel owns me; I don’t own it! But who cares? I got home fine and enjoyed the ride. Tomorrow’s Friday and Number One son gave me a great route to try – the secret back way to Shady Grove. Can’t wait to try it! Song for the day (*gulp*…just say it, Gwynne. It’s OK…) “SOS” by ABBA. My boyfriend put it on my iPod as a joke. OK, that’s a lie. I did it and I’m proud of it!

Has anyone out there tried a new route home and enjoyed it? I’m pretty amazed at how much variety I’m finding on a trek I make every day of the week: work to home. ‘Til next time – wheels down, eyes up, out of each other’s way. Lord if today is the day I meet you face to face, I do it with happiness and thanks for a joy-filled life!

Loved reading your post, Gwynne! You have a way with words – made me giggle and smile….ride safe and I’ll be praying for you to tame Webb Chapel 🙂

    • Cindy, thanks so much for taking the time to visit my blog. I’m working on my web page as well and hope to have it up by the end of the year. This year of riding has been so wonderful and every trip gets better! Bless you this Christmas season – and Jimmy, too.
